“The Biscuit Without A Home “
Re-Rooting Tallaght, Performance Art Festival 2024

The performance follows a biscuit named Creamia. After 15 years in hibernation, she awakes to find her home, the Jacobs Biscuit factory, overtaken by an Amazon Data facility centre. As she searches for a new home, she learns of the arson attack that was done on a hotel housing refugees. The work explores concepts of community, who deserves to exist within it and who gets to decide that.

MEET THE CAST OF “MONSTERS”

Ciarán McGannon as Lorcan

Ciarán McGannon is a queer composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. They have worked with a wide range of artists, including award-winning collaborations with visual/performance artist Venus Patel that deal with queer identity and nonconformity. They have produced several independent releases for multiple bands, and are a seasoned live performer. They played Electric Picnic 2023 with Actress and have organised sold out shows at several venues, including the Workman’s Club main stage. They received the Agility Award 2024 from the Arts Council, and they were a collaborative recipient of the Romilly Walton Masters Award and residency from Centre Culturel Irlandais Paris and Dublin Fringe Festival.

Venus Patel as DAISY

Venus Patel is a transfemme artist of colour who works with performance, film, and visual art. Her work explores her identity as an “other” and its confinement by a society obsessed with conformity. She applies her unique blend of humour, absurdity and abjection to a range of subject matter including religious guilt and hate crimes. In 2022, Venus won the RDS Taylor Art Award for her performance film Eggshells and in 2023, she won the Romilly Walton Masters Award to develop a new experimental performance piece at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris. She was a collaborator on the award-winning show Hive City Legacy: Dublin that premiered at Dublin Fringe Festival 2022.

Other performance credits include ‘The Giggler Treatment’, ‘Passports’ and Hot Brown Honey’s ‘Hive City Legacy: Dublin Chapter’ which won the 2022 Dublin Fringe Festival Judges Choice Award. Shauna is a mentee on the 2024 Screen Ireland x Writer’s Guild of Ireland Black Irish Screenwriters Mentorship and was a 2023-24 Dublin Fringe Festival Weft Studio artist and collaborative recipient of the 2023 Romilly Walton Masters Award and residency from Centre Culturel Irlandais Paris x Dublin Fringe Festival.

Over the moon to have won the RDS Taylor Art Award. I’m so glad that I’ve been allowed the opportunity to share this work that’s been so important to me. Thank you to everyone that helped me make it, especially @jerome_onyango and @ciaranmcgannon I can’t wait to keep making more art that I hope brings change, conversation, and love into the world.
